Obama v McCain

Thursday, January 3rd, 2008

On November 15, 2007 I made the following prediction-Obama v McCain would be the eventual matchup in the 2008 and with Obama winning in Iowa it seems I am a bit closer to being correct in my prediction. Now there is a lot of time left and things could change, but this is a big win for Obama and McCain is looking strong going into NH.

In other news:
-PlansForUs is going to be changing in a lot of significant ways in the next month, as we reappraise our strategy for 2008.

-The Chicago Bulls are down by 2 to Portland and I am nervous

-And this is the best song I have heard in awhile:

Hello Folks

Wednesday, August 29th, 2007

So we had a great response to our inclusion in the History Channel back to school emailing. Welcome to all of our new members who found out about us through this emailing. As a result of this huge boost in traffic, PlansForUs had a breakage. If you registered with us yesterday be on the look out for an email from us. This email will detail the breakage and any steps that need to be applied to fix it, but we are working on eliminating your steps.

Two other notes for today.

Clarence’s “School Begins…But Not Here” is a really cool post. I wish that we had video Skype back in the day so that I could have communicated between New Trier (my alma mater) and our “sister school“. No wonder Clarence is an educator of the year in Canada…and yes I continue to encourage Clarence to give PlansForUs a try.

Sarah you might want to look Clarence up to discuss using Skype for video conferencing between classrooms. I know you had asked me for my thoughts, but Clarence is probably a better resource, though I am of course open to discuss.

Finally, I am really loving Caribou and Phoenix right now. In particular the song “North” by Phoenix and “Eli” by Caribou. Check them out on HypeMachine and let me know what you think.

Last.FM and Sharing

Friday, August 3rd, 2007

So if you are a regular reader of my blog (don’t answer that) you will notice a new feature on the right hand bar, just below the MyBlogLog widget. Yes folks that’s my Last.FM music tracker widget.

Right now the music you see is mine, as we grow the company and consolidate into one location that widget will reflect the music being played by the PlansForUs team.

Here is what I think is cool about Last.FM. Finding new music is fun, Last.FM creates a new way for people to find new music that they may like and it requires almost no effort for me to share what I am listening to with my loyal readers. I just play the music and Last.FM broadcasts it wherever I have installed the widget. At this point it is on my Facebook profile and my MySpace profile. I hope to be able to add it to my Ning profile soon.

Anyway, I hope that you will find some interesting tracks.

Pretty Cool Sounds

Monday, July 2nd, 2007

I have been listening to the Books and really enjoying their music. If you like Architecture in Helsinki, Postal Service and Death Cab for Cutie, then this may be a band to add to your playlist. I have downloaded the songs: Tokyo, Smells Like Content and That Right Ain’t Shi, thus far and will be adding some more to my collection.
If you decide to check them out I hope that you enjoy as much as I am.

Arcade Fire is Amazing

Wednesday, May 9th, 2007

So I went to see Arcade Fire with my buddy Brad at Radio City Music Hall tonight.

I realize that this is totally unrelated to education and building a business, except that I was amazed with how Arcade Fire created its sound. It got me thinking about how to manage a team of talented people. Arcade Fire had 10 different players on stage and it was remarkable to see them interchanging instruments and roles on stage. Amidst this creative chaos Win Butler, the lead singer stayed in total control.

As PlansForUs grows I am going to work hard to be like Win Butler (albeit a lot less cool and not Canadian), letting the various PlansForUs players reach their highest use regardless of what instrument/role they choose to play.

Finally, The National was the opening act and they were awesome. It is no wonder that they sold out 5 consecutive nights at the Bowery Ballroom. I think that I am going to have to get a couple tickets for that show.

Thanks to Brad for getting these tickets and inviting me along. It was an amazing show, definitely among the tops that I have seen.

Now back to business.
